Trafficking in persons is a serious crime against freedom and constitutes a grave violation of human dignity. It is a reality in Switzerland too.
Migrant smuggling constitutes a violation of a country’s entry provisions. Those helping people enter a country illegally do so with a view to profit. At times a nexus may exist between migrant smuggling and trafficking in persons.
The Swiss Coordination Unit against the Trafficking of Persons and Smuggling of Migrants KSMM aims to provide the necessary structures and networks for effectively fighting and preventing human trafficking and migrant smuggling in Switzerland. The Unit is made up of federal and cantonal authorities and agencies as well as non-governmental and intergovernmental organisations. Its headquarters are at the Federal Office of Police.
