For improving the fight against human trafficking and migrant smuggling, KSMM’s tasks include the following:

  • Continually assessing the situation regarding human trafficking and migrant smuggling;
  • Compiling and co-ordinating situation and risk assessment reports, statements and basic papers for planning purposes;
  • Developing Swiss strategies and plans for preventing and fighting human trafficking and migrant smuggling and their consequences, as well as preparing the necessary groundwork for the political decision-making process;
  • Implementing Switzerland’s international obligations, that is the two supplementary protocols to the UN Convention against Transnational Organized Crime;
  • Co-ordinating the strategic and operational measures of the competent administrative units, and the federal and cantonal agencies;
  • Processing and co-ordinating information from Switzerland and abroad on issues in its field of competence;
  • Establishing a contact office for inquiries from Switzerland and abroad;
  • Initiating and compiling training modules and information events.
